November 12, 2025 Dear Patient- My nerve disease continues to progress, and I have been forced to accept the reality that my days as a physician in solo private practice are coming to an end. I simply cannot work enough hours to meet the needs and demands of my patients, and to be financially viable. Our last day in our Little House on Beach Boulevard will be February 27, 2026. The Good News is that Brandie and I have been offered positions in the same Medical Group, Edinger Medical Group, which is consistently rated as the Best Medical Group in Orange County by the Orange County Register, will employ Brandie as a PA in primary care and me as their primary skin surgeon (removing skin cancers, skin cysts and other simple procedures.) Even more remarkably, they hope to hire every one of our employees as well! (Donna Dessau has decided to focus on her nursing duties at Hoag.) It is comforting to know that my patients will be well taken care of.
Patients will have the following options as of March 1, 2026-
- Unless they choose otherwise, HMO Patients will automatically be transferred to a new Primary Care Provider within MemorialCare Independent Physicians (Formerly Greater Newport Physicians).
- Non-HMO patients who wish to follow us to Edinger Medical Group can call or text 714-965-2500 to schedule an appointment.
- Non-HMO patients who wish to seek care elsewhere can have their medical records transferred by sending a written request or patient portal message notifying us of their new physician. Please do this as soon as possible!
Patients under the age of 18 will not be able to follow Brandie or Dr. Barrett, as Edinger Medical Group does not provide pediatric care. For more information about Edinger Medical Group, Senior patients (MediCare) can call 714-965-2558 all other patients can call 714-965-2557
Medical Records: While Dr. Barrett will no longer be practicing Primary Care, he will retain control of your medical records. Prior to March 1, you may contact the office in writing or via the patient portal to have your records sent to a new physician.
